Dutch Apple Pie with Oatmeal Strusel


1pie shell — (9")
5c.apples — peeled, cored, and sliced
2Tbsp.all-purpose flour
2/3c.white sugar
1/2tsp.ground cinnamon
1/4tsp.ground nutmeg
1/4tsp.allspice
2Tbsp.butter
3/4c.all-purpose flour
1/2tsp.ground cinnamon
1/2c.packed brown sugar
3/4c.rolled oats
1tsp.lemon zest
1/2c.butter

1.Preheat oven to 425.
2.Fit pastry shell into pie pan and place in freezer.
3.Place apples in a large bowl.
4.In a separate bowl combine 2 Tbsp. flour, white sugar, 1/2 tsp. cinnamon, nutmeg, and allspice.
5.Mix well and add to apples.
6.Toss until apples are evenly coated.
7.Remove pie shell from freezer.
8.Place apple mixture in pie shell and dot with 2 Tbsp. butter or margarine.
9.Lay a sheet of aluminum foil lightly on top of filling, but do not seal.
10.Bake in preheated oven for 10 minutes.
11.While filling is baking, in a medium bowl combine 3/4 c. butter or margarine until mixture is crumbly.
12.Remove filling from oven and sprinkle streusel on top.
13.Reduce heat to 375.
14.Bake an additional 30-35 minutes, until streusel is browned and apples are tender.
15.Cover loosely with aluminum foil to prevent excess browning.
