1. | Grease and flour 2 9" round cake pans or one 9x13 oblong pan. |
2. | Combine first five ingredients and set aside. |
3. | Mix together 2 1/4 cups flour and salt in a medium bowl. |
4. | In a large bowl, beat 1 1/4 sugar and 1/2 cup butter together (2 minutes at medium speed). |
5. | Add eggs, one at a time, to the sugar/butter mixture. |
6. | Add vanilla to the milk. |
7. | Add flour mixture and milk mixture to the butter/sugar/egg mixtur, alternately, ending with the flour. |
8. | Pour batter into the prepared pans. |
9. | Sprinle crumb topping over batter |
10. | Bake approximately 40-45 minutes. |
11. | When cooled, sprinkle with powdered sugar if desired. |
